Online Conferencing Software

The times when a blackboard and a piece of chalk were enough for a lecture are long gone. With the advent of technology, teachers began to use first slide projectors and then multimedia presentations.However, today these tools are no longer effective enough. In the age of IT and increasing digitalization, lecturers often need to share the desktop with students in real time to make the learning process more engaging, keep an audience on the same page, improve communication and eliminate the need for students to download digital study material prior to or during lectures.

Solution

Softarex has developed an Online Training Platform for distance learning. It allows creating virtual classes for students from the existing arsenal of virtual machines on our customer’s servers. The platform is a part of a larger ecosystem of tools for online training.

The software provides training classes or laboratories. There are two types of them: web applications (cloud-based labs) or virtual machines deployed on a remote server (hardware-based labs). There’s also an audio room, available for everyone.

Using our platform, instructors can pre-configure labs for specific training needs, upload files, take control, monitor student work in real-time, create surveys, assignments, exams, and polls, and communicate with students online. Whenever a student finishes work or gets disconnected, instructors receive notifications right away.

Students can upload their materials — texts, videos, audio, questionnaires, etc. — and share them with the entire class. Instead of raising hands like in a real classroom, they can add themselves to the Help Queue to ask an instructor for help with learning materials or assignments.

Project’s results

The implementation of the Online Training Platform developed by Softarex has produced the following results:

More manageable learning process;
More entertaining and engaging online education;
Enhanced communication between instructors and students;
Improved student performance;
Since the launch of the platform, more than 7500 teachers have trained more than 1.2 million students in 150,000 classes.

Technical challenges

Design and development of virtual classrooms and unique features: support of thumbnail view, engagement monitor, assistant instructors, help queue, follow-up list, advanced presentation, and timeline management.
